About School

A small village Shirdhon in western Maharashtra with a 3500 population where most of the Shirdhonkars are either farmers or farm laborers. Shirdhon village has a ZP school which enrolls close to 200 students from 1st to 7th grade/classes. This school is in frail condition with leaky roofs and cracked walls. Every student rural or urban deserves a better education. The Shirdhon villagers along with PURE India are on a mission to replace the deteriorating ZP school building and make it an example on how to improve the quality of education in villages.

Target Community Of Beneficiaries

Location of the Project-Shirdhon Tal – Koregoan Satara, Maharashtra India. Population of village shirdhon is 3500 with 80% are farmers and work laborers. There are close to 200 students attends Z P school at village (run by Govt.) Most of the children in government schools are first generation learners and do not have a proper support-system at home. They lack exposure to extracurricular activities which nurtures their talent. The children studying in government schools live-in not so healthy / hygienic conditions and lack awareness on hygiene have no/limited access to healthcare.

 

Solution Proposed

In a recently conducted survey from parents and students at Shirdhon school the top most priority were Play Ground, Semi English availability, and clean water along with another suggestions like Parental involvement Skills (Communications, Computers, Vocational).After spending good amount of time studying and discussions with many it has been concluded to undertake school building construction along with other programs like spoken English language learning, Quarterly Health camps etc.

Sustainability

Since Zilha Parishad School at shirdhon is 100% funded and run by government no additional cost is required from infrastructure perspective.But our goal is not only sustaining the good infrastructure but also to add value into children’s daily education and teach the life skills and values Sarvajanik vachnalay at Shirdhon runs many programs at vachnalay building which can accommodate only fewer children once this infrastructure is set and internet is on many programs can be conducted in the school building with the help from vachanalay volunteers.
